Help Birds Heal

Avian Haven relies on dedicated volunteers to support every part of wildlife rehabilitation.


Onsite Rehab Volunteer

As a Rehabilitation Volunteer at Avian Haven, you'll play an essential role in caring for injured and orphaned wild birds. Your work helps maintain the clean, stable, and enriching environment our patients need to recover and return to the wild.

  • Prepare specialized diets and fresh food

  • Clean and maintain enclosures and caging

  • Monitor bird behavior and recovery progress

  • Assist team with laundry and other cleaning

Transport Volunteer

Transport Volunteers safely deliver birds from finders, veterinarians, or wildlife officials to Avian Haven's facility in Freedom, or help connect them through a multi-leg relay with other volunteers.

  • Pick up injured birds from finders or vets

  • Coordinate multi-leg relay transports

  • Ensure safe and stress-free travel for patients

  • Cover routes across Maine's regions

Facilities Volunteer

As a Facilities Volunteer at Avian Haven, you'll help maintain the spaces that make rehabilitation work possible — from flight enclosures to grounds work.

  • Build and repair flight enclosures

  • Maintain grounds and outdoor spaces

  • Assist with seasonal facility projects

  • Help create enrichment structures

Volunteer Expectations

Must be 18+

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Ability to travel to our Freedom, Maine facility.
